Though his career started as comedic storyteller online, social media personality Valdomore has found a new calling as a Dancehall artiste and has signed his first international deal with Epic Records and Against The Grain Entertainment.
Known for his comedic skits on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, Valdomore created his Dancehall persona, 1Skimask, as a character to use in his skits. Vice President of A&R for Epic Records and CEO and founder of Against The Grain Entertainment, Ty Fly welcomed 1Skimask to both labels on Monday.
The record exec expressed his love for all genres of music and explained how working with Dancehall artiste Tina HoodCelebrityy led to his appreciation of Jamaican culture.
“I never believed in putting myself in a box when it comes to Music. I Love all Genres of music. My first major signing to @epicrecords was A Jamacian artist my sister @direaltina who Had The Platinum Single “Walking Throphy” from traveling with her I really got to love and appreciate Jamacian culture.”
He continues, “So I felt the need to bring it back full circle with that being said let’s all welcome the talented @1skimask_ to @againstdagrainent and @epicrecords Let’s Turn This Shit Up @1skimaks Congrats To All Mi Bredren Dem!” Ty Fly wrote.
While 1Skimask was initially a caricature of the Jamaican Dancehall artiste, his first official release, ‘Dawkniss’, quickly propelled him in front of a new audience. He went on to release several more singles, but Dawkniss remains his most streamed song, with the track currently sitting on over 3.1 million views since its release last year.
