9-Year-Old Prodigy, Malaika Miller Steals the Show at JCF Expo

The Jamaica Constabulary Force hosted their annual transformation Expo which showcased the progress that has been made over the years regarding methods of policing, technology and overall better ways to serve and protect the people of Jamaica.

Opened to the public with free admission, the event went on for four days (June 19-22) at the National Arena in Kingston and Montego Bay. While the expo had many attention grabbing and informative moments to speak of, the real star of the show was an unusual suspect.

This suspect was 9 years old student at Duhaney Park Primary School, Malaika Miller. Malaika took the center stage at the expo, showcasing her extensive knowledge and wisdom of certain protocols and procedures that are well beyond her years.

One such instance that was captured on video was when the young Malaika was walking through a makeshift crime scene with Senior Superintendent, Chris Brown while explaining how she solved the crime.

In this video she was explaining certain principles that must be upheld at a crime scene from start to finish with great eloquence as if she had years of experience on the job. Officers in the building were in awe of her as they expressed how impressed they were.

One officer in particular said, “I’m taken a back that she’s just nine years old and she’s telling me about things and protocols that I spent years studying… She telling us about things like tracing, and local principles while also applying them to the crime scene. It is truly amazing.”

There was also another video that was posted on Wednesday, June 25 by the JCF on their official Instagram page. In this video, Malaika and Commissioner of Police, Dr. Kevin Blake were having a conversation. He asked her if she’s just now learning about Forensic Science.

Her response was, “I have interest in Forensic Science so I do my research whenever I have the time because I’m on the quiz team at my school so it takes up a lot of my time.” she said while smiling from ear to ear.

She also said that she aspires to be either a Detective or Forensic Scientist in the future.

The post garnered a lot of attention as many people were very impressed by Malaika and the promise she has shown.

One user commented, “Awwww she is super smart, she can definitely work with the police to solve all the crimes.” Another person remarked, “Articulate, confident, intelligent, extensive vocabulary, just plain brilliant. Can we donate to her college fund?”

The comments about Malaika were nothing but positive.

The stakeholders explained that the aim of the expo was also to attract young persons like Malaika who are interested in law enforcement so that they can be shown all the possible career paths and the resources that available and accessible to them which overall makes this annual event a real necessity for the future of Jamaica.
