Renowned record producer, Linval Thompson Jr. who is more popularly known in the Dancehall fraternity as ‘Shab Don’, had his 2021 gun-related charge dismissed when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court today, April 7.
This dismissal was due to the prosecution’s inability to provide any evidence in the October 14, 2021 charge, when he and his co-accused, Romaro Scott were travelling in a motor vehicle that was stopped and searched by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in Old Harbour, St. Catherine.
The search by the JCF led to the discovery of a gun that was later found to be reported stolen in 2018 and belonged to the Atlanta Police department.
Both men were subsequently charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Scott, 22, took full responsibility for the illegal firearm and ammunition and pleaded guilty to the charges. He was sentenced to six years and one month for illegal possession of a firearm and four years and one month for illegal possession of ammunition.
Both sentences will run concurrently.
Shab Don is the son of the famous Reggae singer Linval Thompson and has made a name for himself in the music industry by producing top tracks for artistes such as Vybz Kartel, Squash and Shaneil Muir amongst many others.
