Byron Messia Teams Up With Lil Baby and Rvssian for ‘Choppa’ Gritty New Track and Music Video

Caribbean Dancehall artiste Dylan Byron whose stage name is Byron Messia drops the much-anticipated collab he has with American rapper Lil Baby and Jamaican producer Rvssian titled ‘Choppa‘. The witty track that was released Thursday, June 13 is accompanied by a music video.

It’s a song about Byron and Lil Baby’s grimy ways and how connected they are in the streets. It’s also a powerful modern fusion of dancehall and hip-hop that was well put together by acclaimed producer Rvssian.

Choppa‘ delves into the gritty realities of street life, portraying the lives of gangsters involved in crimes such as robbery and drive-by shootings. Directed by the visionary Decat, the music video brings the song’s raw narrative to life with vivid storytelling and dynamic visuals.

Byron Messia, known for his distinctive voice and compelling lyrics, brings his dancehall flair to the track, while Lil Baby infuses it with his signature rap style. Notably, the song’s lyrics and visuals paint a vivid picture of a world where crime is a daily reality.

Some lyrics, “One strap two strap three strap, four, killa dem knock pan yo door… choppa go do do do dodo,” the chorus, with its catchy yet haunting slang, underscores the song’s central theme of living life on the edge.

The video which was shot in multiple locations in America features a Jamaican spot, the Jamaican flag along with several eye-catching video vixens. it was shot with a gritty, almost documentary-style aesthetic, the video follows the protagonists through a series of high-tension scenes.

‘Choppa’ does more than entertain; it offers a commentary on the societal issues that give rise to such lifestyles. Both the song and the video reflect the struggles of those who feel trapped in cycles of poverty and violence, using their art to shed light on these harsh realities.

While the track’s narrative is dark, it serves as a poignant reminder of the real-life challenges faced by many. The hard-hitting song racked up over 150k views on YouTube in just eight hours after it’s release. The track is expected to dominate the local YouTube trending music chart soon.

The new release has a vibe similar to Messia‘s breakout hit song titled ‘Talibans’ which has racked up over 74 million views on YouTube since it was released in January of 2023.
