The opinion of most Jamaicans regarding the reason for the loss against Mexico on Saturday is that the coach turned the game on its head with his changes. Dancehall artiste Aidonia in particular stated, “Coach and him Change f**kkkkkk the match!”

One fan who agreed with Aidonia, asked online, “Why change the backline same thing me sày to?” Another person said, “A nuh lie him a tell, plus Dixon needs more field time, mi love see him play plus him Nuh fraid fi score ball ⚽️.”

However, the couch does not share the same views as most Jamaicans who watched the match, “I thought the game was entertaining… have a lot of action in it…,” said head coach of the Reggae Booyz Heimir Hallgrimsson in the opening of his post-match statement.

He continued, “Half time we were quite happy with how we played… we gave them a tough match.. overall quite happy with how the game played out,” he went on to outline that such tough games will help the team grow.

He was asked about the defensive changes that he made in the 68th minute causing a bit of “bad luck”, and causing the team to concede a goal in the 69th minute. According to Hallgrimsson a particular player had a family crisis and did not participate in activities much recently hence he thought he had to make the change.

“The decision was made because there was a family crisis,” he stated before saying that he wanted some steel in midfield. “We can take a lot from this match and build on that going forward,” he states.

With regards to the loss, Hallgrimsson says he feels it’s a psychological issue because the team has a lot of talent but is still unable to showcase their skills against Mexico in particular on the big stage because they have been unable to do so most of the time in the past.

The Boyz have lost all seven of their matches in the Copa America tournament. As a result of the latest defeat. Hallgrimsson declared that the tactics will be changed for the next match which will be against Ecuador on June 26.

Jamaica is looking to advance to the next round from Group B, along with the Caribbean island, the group consists of Mexico, Ecuador, and Venezuela.
