Norika McIntosh, whose mother was hospitalised for cancer, has accused doctors at Savanna La Mar General Hospital in Westmoreland of discharging her mother on Monday without treating her.

McIntosh previously shared with Yardhype that her mother, Vyris Pennycooke, had received little to no care for her cancer diagnosis despite being admitted for almost two months. According to McIntosh, her sister spoke with a doctor on Monday who assured her that they would refer her to a cancer care clinic that would provide their mother with chemotherapy.

The doctor also allegedly told McIntosh’s sister that Savanna La Mar General would provide Pennycooke with the necessary vitamins and pain medication that she needs until she is transferred. However, McIntosh shared that her mother was discharged without their knowledge later that day. She also said that Pennycooke was taken off her IV drip that provided her with nutrients.

“I called my mom to check on her, and she said they said she’s discharged and they have to remove the IV drip. I said, ‘Mommy but they can’t discharge you in that state, knowing they’ve weakened you and now you’re unable to walk and barely move,'” McIntosh said.

She went on to share that her sister informed the hospital what had happened, and they said that they would investigate. But she was reportedly later told that they currently have patients who are far sicker than her mother, and that there is nothing else that they can do.

According to McIntosh, her mother’s health continues to deteriorate, and her face is sunken in, and her lips are dry and cracked. The elderly woman is also unable to eat and drink without vomiting.

Her health was also allegedly further worsened by antibiotics that she received at Savanna La Mar General.

“… No one has yet to offer her anything to build back her strength to even fight the cancer. Instead they gave her antibiotics that has weakened her immune system even more,” McIntosh stated.

The distraught daughter also accused the doctors at the hospital of trying to cover up what they did.

“I’ve filed a complaint again because the doctors are trying to cover themselves while in all they stated they need the bed for sicker patients. My mom is being forced to die and we don’t know what else to do.”

In an update on Wednesday, McIntosh stated, “She is still at the hospital, due to weather conditions my sister can’t get to my mom. But today the Regional complaint officer said that the hospital told them they referred my mom to another facility and they told my sister, which is not true.”
