Reggae artiste Gyptian releases his latest song titled “In the Dark” on Friday via VPAL Music. The sultry track finds the ‘Hold You’ singer navigating a secret, late-night relationship, one that thrives behind closed doors.

Produced by Spot On Records and Mek Cent$ Entertainment, ‘In the Dark’ blends smooth melodies with lush background vocals, creating a sleek, alluring sound. Gyptian’s voice moves with ease through the track, drawing listeners into the messy romance, while the airy beat pulses away.

The song is accompanied by a music video, offering a visual companion to the story.

“‘Wine Slow’ is one of my favorite Gyptian tracks, and it really inspired this new song. I told him I wanted that same vibe, and he definitely delivered. I took the idea to my co-producer, Mek Cent$ Ent, and we built the beat and concept from there. Gyptian nailed it—this is one of my favorite tracks we’ve worked on together, alongside ‘Can’t Get Enough’ and ‘I’m For You’ with Khalia,” said Anthony Taylor of Spot On Records.

This release adds to Gyptian’s long list of accomplishments. His hit Hold You” went 2x platinum in the UK, selling over 1.2 million units. It spent 15 weeks on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 77, and stayed on the UK singles chart for 19 weeks, reaching No. 16.

Gyptian also took home the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Artist in 2010. His track Non Stop” is currently going viral on TikTok, drawing a new wave of fans to his unmistakable sound.

“In the Dark” is now available on all digital platforms.

ABOUT GYPTIAN

In 2010, the global impact of “Hold You” launched Gyptian to international fame, transforming him from a modestly followed artist into a reggae sensation. By that point, the Jamaican artist had already built up steady momentum with tracks like “Serious Times,” showcasing his smooth voice and poignant messages.

Now, more than two decades into his career, Gyptian continues to innovate, blending classic roots reggae and dancehall with fresh sounds, as evidenced by his new single “In the Dark,” co-produced by Spot On Records and Mek Cent$ Ent, released on Friday, September 27.

Born Windel Beneto Edwards in King Weston District, Jamaica, Gyptian’s musical journey began early. Mentored by talent scout Ravin Wong and legendary guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith, he honed his craft, emerging as a promising roots reggae voice with hits like “Is There a Place” and “Serious Times.”

His 2010 single “Hold You” became a global blockbuster, peaking at No. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending nine weeks at No. 1 on the Reggae Digital Songs chart. The track was remixed by artists like Nicki Minaj, Major Lazer, Shy FX, and Toddla T. According to Billboard Magazine, “not since Wayne Wonder’s ‘No Letting Go,’ has an underground reggae artist garnered as much attention in the United States as Jamaica’s own Gyptian.”
