Jamaica 0-0 Draw with France Earns Historic Point In Women’s World Cup

The Reggae Girlz kick-started their quest for a place in the next round of the Women’s World Cup with a historic performance against France. Pre-Match updates coming out of the Reggae Girlz camp were that this group of players was exceptionally fit and filled with belief.

They certainly proved their endurance as the Jamaican team matched the French ladies’ stride for stride. Khadija Bunny Shaw was, however, the stand-out player of the early parts of the first half drawing numerous fouls out of a solid France defence. Bunny Shaw showed why she was soo much talked about Pre- World Cup.

One of Jamiacas’s best chances of the game saw Bunny Shaw holding up the ball very well before being fouled; Shaw then brushed herself off and executed a powerful free kick missing by inches with the French goalkeeper at full stretch.

The French team did have their moments in the late stages of the first half, creating some dangerous moments for a well-organised Jamaican defence through multiple set pieces, which came in quick succession.

But Jamaica’s defence stood firm alongside goalkeeper Drew Spencer to end the first half 0-0.

As it was in the first 45 minutes, France’s best opportunities came from crosses and set pieces. Jamaica’s defence did not lose their focus coming up with some key defensive moments to keep out the opposition.

Bunny Shaw was once again at the centre of everything good offensively; the Reggae Girlz carved a few threatening moments but could not find a telling touch to break down the French defence. In return, the France team peppered the Jamaican goal, as they had a shot hitting the crossbar.

That was the closest France came as the match ended 0-0, a historic point for the Reggae Girlz, however, Jamaica lost their captain and most dangerous player Bunny Shaw late on after she picked up two yellow cards.
