Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz Will Face Off Against France and Brazil at the Women’s World Cup

The Reggae Girlz have created history twice in the last four years, becoming the first Caribbean team to qualify for the Women’s World Cup in 2018, then for an unprecedented second time in July 2022 after defeating Haiti 4-0 at the Concacaf Women’s Championship in Mexico.

Their 2023 World Cup journey will begin next summer when they face France and Brazil in Group F.

The Reggae Girlz group stage campaign will unfold in the host nation of Australia. The Girlz’ opponents were selected at the 2023 Women’s World Cup Draw in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday. During their 2019 World Cup campaign in France, they faced Italy, Australia, and Brazil in their group stage and were defeated in all three matches.

The Girlz will have to pull off a major rebound when they meet Brazil again in their final group-stage match in Melbourne on August 2. They were defeated 3-0 by Brazil in their opening match of 2019. However, the first challenge for the national team, which ranks 43rd in the world, will be France, which ranks 5th. Both teams will face off on July 23 in Sydney.

On July 29, in the capital of Western Australia, Perth, the Girlz will play against the playoff winner of Group C, which consists of Papa New Guinea, Panama, Chinese Taipei, and Paraguay. The winner of Group C will be determined in February.

Before their World Cup 2023 journey commences, the Reggae Girlz will play potential opponent Paraguay in a two-game international friendly series on November 10 and 13.
