In a press conference, Thursday morning, leader of the opposition, Mark Golding along with Kings Counsel and former Justice Minister K.D. Knight called on Jamaica’s current Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness to “remove himself from the office he now holds”.

In the meeting, which took place the morning after the reported ‘security threat’ at Holness’ residence in St. Andrew, the PNP doubled down on a recent call for Holness’ Resignation. Both Knight and Golding acknowledged the threat that took place hours prior, however, most of the presentation focused on what is perceived to be unacceptable activities by the island’s leader.

“Why would you need to have 28 accounts, why?” K.D. Knight asked multiple times during his speech, “This call for detailed investigation.” “Conspiracy jumps out… money laundering jumps out at me… those are serious offences,” he said before he outlined that he does not suggest that Holness is guilty, but he is calling for a thorough investigation.

With regard to Elections, Knight Q.C. also called for an election sooner than later, saying, “I say to him, start packing, because you are going and if you don’t believe me, speak to Mr. Golding, Bruce that is…. Pack yo bags, put in yo clothes and yo belongings,” the flamboyant lawyer said while concluding his colourful statement.

“Yuh cah run a country and run private business at the same time, it’s one or the other… and it is clear that one of the reasons why the country is in the condition it is in now, is that sufficient time is not being spent by the chief executive officer to run the country… these are business ventures”

The comments come as the island’s leader tries to riggle himself out of rumours of him being involved in illicit enrichment which caused an investigation by the Integrity Commission. In response to the allegations, Holness has stated, “The investigation of my affairs led to the hiring of an international forensic accountant, who found no evidence of illicit enrichment.”

Golding also called for his resignation in the press conference. According to Golding, PM Holness had a charity company mixing with his private company, he also made mention of Holness’ involvement with SSL.

“Indeed the payments between Mr. Holness’s personal companies over the reviewed period exceeded 400 million dollars,” Golding detailed before accusing Holness of creating a conflict of interest by appointing an associate to work privately and politically “in the real estate sector”.

“We cannot go on like this, The prime minister must step aside now, or call fresh elections so that the people have the chance to elect a new government that can take our country out of this mess,” Golding said.
