The race, held at the National Stadium, was the last chance for Jamaica’s top sprinters to secure their places for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September 13–21, 2025.

Thompson, running from lane five, dominated the race from start to finish, crossing the line a clear two strides ahead of his closest rival, Oblique Seville, who finished second in 9.83 seconds.

Seville had experienced some discomfort before the race but, thanks to swift intervention from his physiotherapist, he was able to line up and claim a qualifying spot for Tokyo.

Akeem Blake, running from lane two, secured third place with a strong performance of 9.88 seconds and Ryiem Forde in 4th with a time of 9.98 also booked their place on the national team.

Thompson’s commanding victory not only cemented his status as Jamaica’s top male sprinter for the season but also sent a strong warning to the global competition ahead of Tokyo after finishing second at the Olympics in 2024.
