Man Dead, Son Injured in Acid Attack by Girlfriend: Report

A woman from St. Andrew has been arrested in connection with a suspected acid attack that left a man dead and his teenage son seriously injured. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, at a residence on Verbena Avenue, off Waltham Park Road.
The deceased, 40-year-old sales representative Christopher Clarke, and his son were reportedly at home when a woman—believed to be Clarke’s partner—entered the dwelling and allegedly doused them with a corrosive substance.
As reported by the Jamaica, the two were rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital by a neighbour, suffering severe burns. Clarke later succumbed to his injuries, while his son remains hospitalized with burns to his face, left eye, and chest.
Superintendent Mark Harris, head of the St Andrew Central Police Division, confirmed the woman’s arrest but noted that no formal charges have been laid yet. However, police are expected to initially charge her with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Additional charges, including possible homicide-related ones, will depend on the outcome of the pending autopsy report on Clarke’s body.
According to reports, the suspect and Clarke had a dispute earlier that day, which may have triggered the attack. The nature and motive behind the altercation are still under investigation.
