Mavado’s Son and Co-accused Freed

The murder conviction for Dantay Brooks, the son of Dancehall artiste David Brooks, professionally known as Mavado, was overturned by the Court of Appeal on Friday.

The murder conviction of Brooks’ co-accused, Andre Hines, was also overturned.

In 2021, Brooks and Hines were given life sentences for the 2018 murder of Lorenzo Thomas in the St. Andrew community of Cassava Piece.

They were also found guilty of arson and illegal possession of a firearm.

Brooks and Hines were accused of forcefully entering Thomas’s home with five other men and shooting him.

Brooks was 18 years old at the time of his conviction.
