Dancehall veteran Mr. Vegas is questioning whether prominent news outlet Jamaica Gleaner is attempting to tarnish his career. The question arose after Jamaica Gleaner wrote and shared a story about him on their social media accounts.

According to the story, Mr. Vegas was chided by the Jamaican Embassy in Washington DC for using “Brand Jamaica” in his promotion for an event slated for June 15th in Washington DC.

The Jamaica Gleaner wrote, “Jamaican Embassy in the Washington DC has put members of the diaspora on alert that an event being promoted for next Saturday at its offices is not connected to the island’s diplomatic mission in the United States.”

Mr. Vegas shared a screenshot of the story on X, where he stated that the news outlet published the “false” story twice.

Additionally, the Bruk It Down artiste wrote, “This was done subsequently to the Jamaican Embassy statement, which made it very clear that I was not “chided.” It is important to note that the gleaner has not published any other person/group that is using the brand Jamaica to promote their event that is meant to paint the country in a bad light.”

Afterwards, he posted a video stating that his event is not affiliated with the Jamaican Embassy but will be hosted at the location.

“We are coming to Washington DC to stand up for Jamaica, to promote our beautiful country…We are coming there to celebrate Jamaica, that’s it,” he said.

“Mi nuh know what is the Gleaner’s motive. Why dem keep running the story even after the Jamaican Embassy put forward a statement that their post had nothing to do with me,” he continued, adding that it is “very unfortunate” that the Gleaner is putting a “bad twist” on what he is trying to do.

In the caption of the post, he wrote, “Why is the gleaner trying to tarnish my name? See you June 15th at 8. am. Meet us at the Jamaican Embassy.”
