Reggae Girlz Beaten Heavily by England, 7-0 in Friendly Match

The Reggae Girlz endured a crushing 7-0 defeat against England on Sunday, as the European champions delivered a dominant performance from start to finish at the King Power Stadium.

The international friendly, which served as a send-off for England before Euro 2025, kicked off at 11:00 a.m. Jamaica time.

Missing their talismanic striker, Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, Jamaica struggled to mount any meaningful challenge. England stormed to a 3-0 lead by half-time and continued to pile on the pressure in the second half.

The statistics told the story of a one-sided affair: England registered 35 shots with 17 on target, while Jamaica failed to get off a single attempt in the entire 90 minutes.

Possession was equally lopsided, with Jamaica managing only 19% compared to England’s 81%, while the Lionesses completed an impressive 707 passes from 775 attempts and recorded 70 touches in Jamaica’s penalty area.

England’s scorers included E. Toone, who found the net in the 10th and first-half stoppage time, L. Bronze in the 32nd minute, G. Stanway in the 59th, A. Russo in the 71st, A. Beever-Jones in the 85th, and B. Mead in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Following the heavy defeat, the Jamaica Football Federation shared a message of encouragement on social media, stating, “A tough result — but the Reggae Girlz showed courage through it all. This may be the final whistle for this run, but the journey continues. We’re proud. Win, loss, or draw — we stand with our Girlz, always.”

Reactions from fans were mixed. Some expressed optimism, while others voiced frustration about the team’s recent struggles and questioned the leadership and direction following past coaching changes.

The Reggae Girlz are 40th place in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, while the Boyz are ranked 63rd. On the other hand, England’s National Women’s team is ranked number 5, USA is ranked first.
