Queen of Dancehall Spice shaded Alkaline after joining Vybz Kartel on stage during his much-anticipated return to the stage after 13 years in prison. Freedom Street kicked off at the Nation Stadium in Kingston on Tuesday night, and long-time friends and collaborators Spice and Kartel rang in the new year together.

But before sharing a more wholesome moment as she and Kartel sang the national anthem together to welcome the new year, Spice performed hits from her catalogue, such as So Mi Like It.

As her performance came to a close and their New Year’s fireworks celebration approached, Spice announced that she had a remix for Kartel and the partygoers. The artiste performed her version of Kartel’s single, The Comet, the first song the deejay released after his release from prison.

The single announced Kartel’s grand return, and the Fever artiste used the song to proclaim that he was retaking his place at the top. Similar to Kartel’s bravado expressed on The Comet, Spice boasted about his dominance on her remix and took the opportunity to shade Alkaline.

“Kartel fresh out a prison and a meck more money dan artiste weh deh a road longer. How yuh fi compare Alkaline, him a di student to di World Boss, teacher. Unuh a gwaan like a two but a one, Adidja Palmer. Look how mi tell yuh seh di boss was coming. Look how mi tell yuh seh di boss was coming,” Spice sang.

While many have positioned Alkaline as Kartel’s adversary, Kartel expressed after his release that there is no bad blood between them, nor is he holding any grudges. However, that was seemingly not enough to stop Spice from addressing fans comparing the deejays.
