The incident occurred on May 9 near the end of the school day. According to the woman’s attorney, she saw the teen attacking another male student and attempted to intervene.

However, the teacher’s attempts to defuse the situation were not welcomed by the student, who kicked and punched her all over her body. Reports state that the teen punched the teacher so hard in her mouth that it broke her braces.

While it has not been confirmed, the boy allegedly knelt in her stomach, pinning her down until she was rescued by a male teacher. Speaking with TVJ News, her attorney said that the incident left her traumatised and unable to sleep and eat well.

Though she returned to school after the incident, the teacher was unable to proceed with her classes for the day. “As a teacher who is very passionate about her job, she still tried, not notwithstanding the fact that she’s been suffering emotionally and physically,” the lawyer said.

After the incident, majority of the teachers employed at Kingston High were absent from classes the following Monday to show their disapproval. In a memo issued by Principal Jermaine Loutin, the attack was described as part of a troubling increase in similar incidents involving students from grades 7 to 9.

The school chairman of Kingston High confirmed that there have been several incidents of physical confrontations between students and teachers. Reports state that the incidents range from students throwing paper and water at teachers to verbal and physical threats.
