Well, known veteran Reggae Artiste Buju Banton has dropped his new album on June 28, 2020, and it has definitely been picking up traction. In a video interview done with the popular international radio station Hot 97, the legendary artiste on explaining the name of the album “Upside Down” said that the name came as a result of things being so upside down in the world and so the album is an effort to convey messages of motivation and upliftment to the people and to impact reggae positively. Ebro, one of the hosts of the interview went on to let Buju Banton know what a great experience it was visiting Jamaica in 2019 to attend his freedom concert after being incarcerated for a long while in the United States. Buju Banton Gives update on “Upside Down” Album

While addressing a Zoom session, an excited Buju Banton shared a number of the tracks that are going to be a part of his 20 song project. This will be his first release since his release from Us prison in 2018 for drug-related charges. The World is changing: Good Time Girl, Appreciated and Unity are some of the tracks shared by the DJ and they featured bass work inspired by Afrobeat innovator the late Fela Kuti. Last Friday Blessed was released. The track produced by Dave Kelly had a hunch of 90’s dancehall music but also carried a fresh tone to it. The music could be broken down into three parts, love, conscious reality and a hardcore dancehall sound. Buju Banton back on Billboard Major Chart

Buju Banton earns an entry on one of Billboard’s major charts, for the first time in 13 years. “Memories”, featuring John Legend, moved from 23 to 21 in its fourth week on the Adult R&B Songs chart. This collaboration between Banton and Legend is the second one. Banton was also featured on a reggae remix of Legend’s hit single Can’t Be My Lover, in 2008. It was produced by Dwayne “Supa Dups” Chin-Quee. The last time Banton charted was on a major Billboard tally in 2007, “Driver” peaked at number 72 and 75 on the Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. On the latest Adult R&B Songs chart, Skip Marley’s Slow Down featuring HER falls from number one to number three elsewhere. Reggae Singer leads George Floyd’s Protest

Reggae singer Nature Ellis showed solidarity with the protests in the United States against last week’s killing of George Floyd. Floyd was an unarmed black male who was killed by police in Minneapolis in what many people across the world sees as racially motivated. the “World Peace” singer led a group of demonstrators along Constant Spring Road in St Andrew on Thursday and according to Nature, though Floyd was killed in America, the incident was representative of injustice against black people across the world including Jamaica. “Throughout history, it’s silence of justice that causes all these foolishness to prevail,” Nature said. Bob Marley, the Jamaican Superstar who was born in 1945 and died in 1981, Bob is credited as the one who took Reggae music to many places across the globe.
