TikTok US Ban Gets Another 90-Day Delay

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order granting TikTok a third extension to avoid a U.S. ban, giving Chinese parent company ByteDance another 90 days to finalize a sale to an American owner.
The move comes just one day before the ban was set to take effect on June 19.
Trump, who has publicly softened his stance on the app, told reporters, “I like TikTok. We probably will save TikTok, actually,” even joking about his recent popularity on the platform.
The extension provides temporary relief for TikTok’s 170 million American users and companies like Apple and Google, which would have been forced to remove the app from their platforms.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on June 17 that the administration is actively working to secure a deal that ensures U.S. user data remains “safe and secure.” She emphasized that the president “does not want TikTok to go dark.”
This marks the third delay of the banning of the app. The initial deadline followed legislation signed in April 2024 by former President Joe Biden, which ordered ByteDance to sell TikTok over concerns about national security and foreign influence.
With this new extension and no prospective buyer in sight, critics are now debating that the extensions could go on for a long time because China does not want to sell.
Notably, during earlier ban reports, many Jamaican TikTokers expressed outrage and dismay, including Ivany, World Dawg and Swiiss Lee. Many Americans also lashed out at the possibility of the shut-down.
