Westmoreland Buisnesswoman Fatally Shot, Angry Mob of Residents Attack the Killers with Machetes – Watch Video

A businesswoman was fatally shot in Westmoreland, and scores of angry residents leapt into action, enforcing jungle justice against her alleged killers and taking the life of one. The incident occurred on Monday morning after the deceased, Lativa “Latty” Helps, went to work sometime after 8:00 a.m.

The report details that when the 39-year-old arrived at her business place, Latty’s Sports Bar and Restaurant, Helps was accosted by armed men on a motorcycle. The perpetrators told her to identify herself, which was when Helps attempted to run away, but she was chased and shot several times in her upper body by one of the gunmen.

The incident was witnessed by a bus driver, who struck the gunmen with his bus as they were attempting to flee the scene. This resulted in the men running into the nearby bushes, but a mob of outraged residents pursued them with machetes.

Lativa “Latty” Helps

A circulating video shows the angry mob arguing with the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaica Defence Force to free one of the injured men so that they could kill him.

Amid the shouting and angry expletives, a woman can be heard shouting, “Let him go, mek we have him!”

One of the men was spotted in the back of the police van with the officers, and another was standing on the ground with more law enforcers.

According to the Jamaica Observer, one of the perpetrators died from multiple chop wounds, and the other is said to be in critical condition in the hospital.

The Jamaica Observer report also released a statement from Helps’ cousin who said that the businesswoman was robbed two months ago and again Friday night.

Helps, who was described as hardworking, kind, and loving by her cousin, owned the establishment since 2016. Her cousin told the news outlet, “Mi cyah believe dem kill off mi cousin. She was parked in her vehicle and saw men on a bike in masks. She called and told someone that it looks like dem a guh rob the bar again.”
