A family from North Carolina, United States, is seeking answers concerning the mysterious death of their daughter, who never returned home from a weekend with friends in Mexico. Bernard Robinson and his wife Salamondra are mourning the death of their daughter Shanquella, who left Charlotte on October 28 with a group of friends to visit Cabo, Mexico. Her friends later returned home from the trip, but their daughter did not.
Weeks later, the family is still unaware of what led to the death of their 25-year-old daughter, and they have expressed that they do not believe what her friends told them. Salamondra Robinson spoke to WBTV, explaining that Shanquella’s friends contacted them a day after they arrived in Cabo, claiming their daughter died from alcohol poisoning. “On Saturday evening, they called and said she wasn’t feeling well, and they were going to call a doctor,” Salamondra stated. “And when they called, the doctor hadn’t arrived yet, but they said she had alcohol poisoning.”
However, after contacting the FBI and Mexican authorities, an autopsy report was sent to the parents, revealing the 25-year-old had suffered a broken neck and a back spasm. The parents added that the autopsy report showed that she was attacked, which contradicted what her friends told them. “I just sit back and wait on God, cause like I say, she gon’ get justice…something is not adding up right here,” Bernard stated.
National agencies became involved in the incident because Shanquella passed away in Mexico. However, the U.S. State Department in Mexico denied that Shanquella was murdered in a statement, saying there was no conclusive proof of foul play, per the authorities.
A video was released, reportedly showing a physical confrontation between Shanquella and one of her friends in Cabo. The clip shows Shanquella inside a bedroom being beaten by a female who is said to be her friend. The person recording the fight tells Shanquella to fight back, but she refuses, and the other female continues to pound her head. The girl throws Shanquella to the ground, punches, and kicks her several times. Another person is caught in the footage, standing by and watching as the girl walks away, telling Shanquella to “get up.”
