$50,000 to Get into Popcaan’s Birthday Party in Portland: Jamaicans React
Dancehall artiste Popcaan, born Andrae Sutherland, is set to host his birthday party on July 19, but the exclusive event’s entry fee has taken some social media users by surprise.
Popcaan will be celebrating his 36th birthday this month, and ahead of the celebratory day on Friday, Popcaan announced his birthday party on Monday.
The event will be held at The Villa in Anchovy, Portland, with Reggae artiste Rani Rastaciti and Dancehall artistes Nate Badz and RajahWild scheduled to perform.
Popcaan shared a poster for the event earlier today on his Instagram page, with the entry totalling $50,000. Social media users shared mixed reactions in the comment section of the post, with one viewer jokingly stating, “Poppy if yuh nuh want we a yuh pawty yuh cuda just say that 😂😂.”
While some expressed that the price was too high, especially after Hurricane Beryl, other fans defended the cost. One viewer highlighted that Jamaicans willingly paid to see American singer Chris Brown perform at prices as high as $1.5 million.
“Same like how uno go Chris brown million dollar party uno can go the 50k Jamaican party,” the fan wrote.
