Cardi B Says She’s A Huge Fan Of Spice And She’s “Nervous” To Do Dancehall

Grammy Award-winning Hip-Hop artiste Cardi B might dabble in dancehall music in the future, although she is nervous to take on the Jamaican sound, fearing that it might not be up her alley.

The ‘Bodak Yellow’ rapper shared the nervousness she feels to do dancehall projects during a sit-down with Angela Yee’s ‘Lip Service podcast. Despite being widely known as a lover of dancehall, Cardi B, whose born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, feels “nervous” about trying the genre.

“It’s like a little bit out of my lane,” Cardi B said.

For her 28th birthday celebration, Cardi B hosted a dancehall-themed party. Her love for dancehall didn’t just start when she became a superstar though, the American Rapper shared that she has been a lover of dancehall music at a young age when she idolized Dancehall Queen Spice.

The love she has for Spice was so great at the age of thirteen that the ‘Up’ singer made her father buy her the same blouse she saw Spice wearing.

Naming Spice as one of her biggest influences, Belcalis thinks of herself as a Spice superfan who knows all of her older songs that are not on Apple Music.

The Dancehall Queen herself confirmed that Cardi B is indeed a huge fan of hers who was singing her songs “word for word” when she first met her. The confirmation was pinned in the caption of an Instagram post she shared with a clip of the podcast.

Tagging her, Spice wrote, “@iamcardib the first time I met you, you was singing my songs word for word, even songs that I didn’t even remember, you’ve definitely been a huge fan since day 1 no lies told.”

Since Tuesday’s Lip Service episode with Cardi B was shared on Spice’s page, fans have been coaxing a collaboration between the two sensational females.

For Cardi B to take on Dancehall though, she said she would have to be able to produce an authentic sound. Nevertheless, she was encouraged by the panel to give it a shot, despite admitting to being nervous while doing dancehall and reggaeton.

The ‘WAP’ artiste, who has been seen in various videos singing and dancing to dancehall music, added that there could be a potential collaboration with Spice.

The 29-year-old rapper hails from the Bronx, New York where the Jamaican culture is very influential.
