Jamaica Unable to Finish in Top Three in the Women’s 400m Final at the Lausanne Diamond League 2022 – Watch Race
Jamaica entered the finals of the 400m at the Lausanne Diamond League with two sprinters eyeing a first-place finish: 25-year-old Candice McLeod and 33-year-old Stephenie Ann McPherson. But both contenders were unable to place in the top three.
Candice McLeod set a new season’s best in the 400m final in Monaco earlier this month, finishing second with 49.87 seconds, just ahead of Sada Williams of Barbados, who placed third. However, this time around, McLeod was unable to edge out in front of Williams and finished fourth in 50.80 seconds.
Williams claimed second place, clocking in at 49.94s, behind Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, who finished with 49.87s in first place. Fiordaliza Cofil, also of the Dominican Republic, finished third with a new personal best of 50.13 seconds.
McPherson was issued a yellow card by officials at the beginning of the race and finished seventh in 50.63 seconds.
