Briana Williams Talks Move to Titans Track Club and Glad to be Training in Jamaica – Watch Video

After a decade under the mentorship of coach Ato Boldon that saw her earn Jamaica’s U18 & U20 200m record titles, Briana Williams has expressed her excitement to begin the new stage of her track career with Titans and is happy to be training in Jamaica.

Born in Florida, United States, this is Williams’ first time living in Jamaica, though she has visited consistently over the years for work and vacation. Speaking on SportsMax TV’s Zone, Williams shared that she has enjoyed the three weeks that she has spent training at Titans Track Club and said her body has been adapting to the new training. She also expressed that she feels like she has been changing mentally and physically. After training mostly alone during her tutelage with Boldon, the 20-year-old voiced that it has been good to have teammates who motivate her or call her out if she is not in form. With several notable Jamaican Athletic clubs that have facilitated the nation’s best track stars, Williams said she chose the lately formed Michael Frater and Gregory Little-run club after careful consideration. According to Williams, she and Little spoke while on their way to a track meet in Hungary, and what the former Racers Track Club coach shared resonated with her.

“I just took a long time to just make this decision…I prayed on it, and I just felt like moving here would just be a new home and a new environment for me to flourish.” Williams stated.

Out of her many accomplishments during the earlier years of her track career, Williams said she was most proud of her CARIFTA Games wins. The young sprinter won two back-to-back Austin Sealy Awards at the Games, first in 2018, then in 2019, after securing three gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m. Williams went on to credit coach Bolden for having more confidence in her abilities than she did, as she was not among the favourites to win the 100m at the IAAF World Under 20 Championships in 2018.

Looking ahead to the future, the Olympic medalist said she wants a spot on the Jamaica 2023 World Athletics Championships team and assures she knows what will be required of her to make it into the 100m and 200m finals. The athlete’s primary training goal is to get the last 30 meters of her sprint right and is working hard under the coaching of Little and Frater to succeed. Willams thinks she runs best in Jamaica and is excited to begin her season.

“I really appreciate just people enjoying track and field and coming out to watch me and coming out to watch all the athletes…I really enjoy it here… that’s another reason why I chose to run for Jamaica because they respect track and field a lot more.” Williams stated.
