Valiant, Jahshii, Skeng, and Other Artistes Unable to Perform at Sting – Watch Videos
Dubbed “The Greatest One-Night Reggae and Dancehall Show,” Isiah Laing’s Sting returned to Plantation Cove, St. Ann, on Monday after a seven-year hiatus. But the grand Boxing Day event was found wanting, with several notable artistes, such as Valiant, Jahshii, and Skeng, unable to perform their set.
Sting organisers proclaimed the event the answer to the resounding calls for a stage upon which to hone and test the lyrical mettle and audience mastery of the new wave of dancehall young guns. But a premature and rushed end to the show left dancehall’s young guns without a stage to do so.
Valiant, who was reportedly slated to perform at 6:15 am, gave fans a small performance in the Plantation Cove parking lot after his time on stage came to an abrupt end. The artiste’s performance on stage followed a brief clash between Malie Donn and Pablo YG, who was escorted off the stage. Valiant began his performance with his hit Speed Off and tag-teamed with several artistes who joined him on stage. The entertainer was only able to perform the intro to his song, Dunce Cheque, as all the performers struggled to get time on the mic.
Dovey Magnum stepped out to perform, revealing to patrons that the artistes had to share the mic. With the police bringing the event to a close, the Bawl Out singer was only able to perform briefly before the stage show came to an abrupt end. Unable to take the stage, dancehall artiste Jahshii nevertheless took some time to greet fans in the parking lot and spoke momentarily with members of the police force as well.
Sting’s last staging in 2015 was less than stellar, and several attempts to bring the show back have failed over the last few years. Much was expected from the event’s grand return last night, but with prime members of its line-up, such as Skeng, unable to take the stage, Sting organisers will have to wait another year to live up to the title of “The Greatest One-Night Reggae and Dancehall Show.”
