“Me Buss Gaza an Gully,” I-Octane Declares – Watch Interview

Following his prematurely ended performance at Rebel Salute, I Octane sat down with Entertainment Report’s Anthony Miller and discussed his return to Jamaica, his music career, and paving the way for other artistes.

During his interview with Miller, I-Octane, born Byiome Muir, made several confidently delivered declarations. One of them was that he was responsible for breaking Vybz Kartel’s Gaza and Movado’s Gully dominance and the grip they had on dancehall, thus paving the way for other artistes. 

“All a di young artiste dem weh buss afta me enuh [ … ] fi pay mi homage. Dem owe mi [ … ] an mi not even a hype bout it [ … ] me buss Gaza an Gully. A me break it mek di yute dem have a career bout yah,” I-Octane stated.

Speaking on his move to Florida, the Missing You singer expressed that he felt he had accomplished everything he could in Jamaica, acquiring multiple corporate company deals and performing at and closing every stage show on the island. He also cited the growing animosity in the entertainment community as a cause for his move, explaining that even people who he had helped took sides against him and stopped playing his music.

I-Octane spoke briefly about the less-than-stellar ending to his performance at Rebel Salute, which prematurely ended after he began to curse and expressed his feelings about Prime Minister Andrew Holness. He apologised for his behaviour and admitted that it was not the right forum for it.

The artiste also touched on the current internet-driven music scene and young artistes, refusing to demonise new performers for the content of their lyrics. After a long hiatus from Jamaica, I-Octane expressed that he is ready to venture into the local entertainment circuit once again and has declared to promoters that if he is not part of their lineup, it will fail.
