Elaine Thompson-Herah Wins 60m Dash at the 2023 Karsten Warholm Invitational – Watch Race
Following her first win at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet on Saturday, Elaine Thompson-Herah sprinted to her second win of the season at the 2023 Karsten Warholm Invitational in Ulsteinsvik, Norway, on Thursday.
The Olympic champion opened her season last Saturday at the National Stadium in Kingston with a 7.15-second win in the 60m. Thompson-Herah expressed that she was ready to put last season’s setbacks behind her and had no plans on dwelling as the new season was ahead of her.
In her second appearance of the indoor season in the 60m, Thompson-Herah sprinted to a comfortable win, clocking in at 7.30 seconds. Norwegian home favourite Helene Ronningen followed close behind, finishing in 7.40 seconds, ahead of Ukrainian Victoria Ratnikova, who placed third with a time of 7.53 seconds.
Today’s meet marked Thompson-Herah’s first return to indoor athletics since Birmingham in 2017. The star athlete had previously won bronze in the 60m at the 2016 World Indoor Championships.

Following today’s meet, Thompson-Herah said she was grateful to have completed the race successfully without injury, as it was her first time running on that type of surface. She went on to express her thrill at competing alongside a group of younger athletes.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be among these youngsters. You know, they look up to me and want to be like me one day, so I’m just grateful to compete with them,” Thompson-Herah stated.
