Yohan Blake Merges Sprinting Career With Rehab and Wellness Centre
Though several of his fellow Jamaican male sprinters have crossed over into retirement and stepped into new career roles, Yohan Blake continues to balance his sprinting career with his rehab and wellness centre.
As one of the top Jamaican male sprinters from an era that saw the country dominate the podium in track and field, Blake has achieved much throughout his time on the track. But the athlete has also experienced his fair share of setbacks in the sport, walking away with major injuries that would have ruined some careers.
It was his past injuries and travelling overseas for treatment that inspired him to create the Yohan Blake Rehab & Wellness Centre in Kingston. The daring business venture was launched amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, offering a wide range of services, such as body massages, physical therapy, and reflexology, for athletes and non-athletes.
Unlike his former teammates Usain Bolt and Michael Frater, who are now retired and fully committed to their music and coaching careers, respectively, Blake continues to balance his passion for the sport and healing the body. It would appear that merging these two passions has helped him with his balancing act.
Blake’s sports massage therapist, Rupert “Magic Hands” Fearon, is employed at the centre, and the sprinter has also taken advantage of the centre’s electroshock therapy treatment if need be. On Thursday, the Olympic champion shared a photograph of himself waiting for a session at the centre on his Instagram page.
“Waiting to get work on at the yohan blake rehab centre. You can achieve anything you want in this life trust in God and believe,” Blake wrote in the photo’s caption.
