Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel will finally be getting his day in court as an official date for his appeal, and that of his fellow appellants to be heard by the United Kingdom (UK) Privy Council has been set for 2024.
Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, and his co-defendants Shawn Campbell, popularly known as Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John, were convicted for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in 2014. The men received life sentences but sought to have their convictions overturned. However, they lost their bid in the court of appeal.
An appeal to the Privy Council, Jamaica’s final appellate court, was then made. According to reports from journalist and FOX5 TV News reporter Lisa Evers, due to Kartel’s poor health condition, his attorney, Isat Buchanan, filed a request for an expedited hearing of the artiste’s appeal in the Privy Council.

Buchanan revealed earlier this year that Kartel was suffering from Graves disease and a heart condition that required surgery as his condition had become life-threatening. An official court date for the Privy Council to hear the murder conviction appeal of Kartel and his fellow appellants is currently on the registry for February 14 and February 15, 2024, in London.
