Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Speaks on Fulfilling Her Purpose With Her Pocket Rocket Foundation

Fraser-Pryce launched her Pocket Rocket Foundation in 2013, providing student-athletes with academic scholarships as well as conducting community outreach and development programs. As the Pocket Rocket Foundation marks its tenth anniversary, the sprinter will be conducting the foundation’s 10th Anniversary Gala & Fundraiser at the AC Hotel in Kingston.

On Friday, Fraser-Pryce shared how her purpose goes beyond her career as an athlete. The three-time Olympic gold medalist expressed that while every competitive athlete desired to reap Olympic success, it was not enough for her to achieve greatness at the major international sports event.

Fraser-Pryce explained that fulfilling her purpose was just as important as athletics in her journey and her understanding that led to the creation of her foundation.

“I know my athletic achievements were the stepping stones for my purpose. This realization gave birth to my Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Pocket Rocket Foundation! The SFP Pocket Rocket Foundation 10th anniversary Gala & Fundraiser tomorrow is an evening of celebration marking 10 years of contributing to the development of student-athletes and community upliftment, with Sports and Education being our launching pad,” Fraser-Pryce wrote in a Facebook post.

The Pocket Rocket Foundation has provided student-athletes from 26 schools across Jamaica with funding, and former recipients are expected to attend today’s gala.
