R. Kelly Says He Did Not Know About Losing $10.5 Million Lawsuit Because He Can’t Read Good

Incarcerated R&B singer R. Kelly has denied knowing about a US$10.5 million lawsuit that he lost, stating that his reading capabilities are those of a child.
R. Kelly and his former manager, Donnell Russell, were sued by six women who alleged that the men threatened them and were responsible for a gun threat that shut down a 2018 screening of Surviving R. Kelly.
Russell was later sentenced to one year in prison in 2022.
In 2023, the women were awarded $10.5 million, with the funds expected to be taken from R. Kelly’s music royalties. However, the imprisoned singer recently denied knowing about the lawsuit, explaining that he would have challenged the suit if he had.
According to reports from TMZ, R. Kelly has cited his many legal woes and a change in his legal team for his ignorance. R. Kelly added that if he had received the lawsuit, he would not have understood the documents as he “cannot read or understand words beyond that of a grade schooler.”
He has now placed the blame on Russell, who he said was never his manager. R. Kelly further expressed that Russell is the one who should be held responsible for making the threats because “he did that for his own reasons.”
