Jamaican Team Competing in Curling Championships in Canada

As Jamaican athletes continue to broaden their horizons in global athletics, team Jamaica will compete in the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championships in Canada.
While the country is most known for its immense success on the track, over the past few years, there has been an increase in interest in athletes finding their calling beyond the world of track and field.
Curling Jamaica, the body in charge of the sport, is still in its infancy following Ben Kong’s founding of the organisation in 2020.
Curling Jamaica’s men’s team will be making their competitive debut on the world stage as the Pan Continental Curling Championships commence today in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada. The Curling Championships are set to conclude on November 2, with team Jamaica competing in 10 games over 6 days.
Before the opening ceremony on Sunday evening, the men’s team will first face off with Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Kenya. They will go on to face Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Qatar, and Nigeria in the coming days, with the semi-final and final scheduled for November 1 and 2.
The four-member men’s team will see Luke Samuels (lead), Don Johnston (second), Andrew Walker (third), and Ian Robertson (skip/captain) attempt to make history in this year’s championships.
Curling Jamaica’s women’s team will also compete at the Pan Continental, with the four-woman team consisting of Margot Sheperd-Spurgeon, Medeline Spurgeon, Stephanie Chen, and Alexandra Marriot.
The women’s curling team is aiming to top their 2023 Pan Continental Curling B Championships performance that saw them walk away with silver.
