A man, believed to be of unsound mind disturbed funeral services at the Dovecot Cemetery in St. Catherine when he reportedly removed the body of a female from her coffin and placed it beside the grave.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the presence of funeral attendees, some of whom attempted to intervene. However, reports indicate that the unidentified man responded by throwing stones at them.
Consequently, police personnel were called to the scene, but it is said that the man continued his disruptive behavior despite the warning shots fired.
A mourner then intervened with his licensed firearm, firing several shots that injured the man. He was rushed to Spanish Town Hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses have also suggested that some individuals at the scene believed the man may have been possessed.
Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St. Catherine North Police Division, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing, with the Guanaboa Vale police leading the inquiry.
