It was the first time the deejay took to the stage to perform for partygoers in over a decade. Scheduled to perform for three hours, Kartel delivered hits after hits from his extensive catalogue of songs after making his grand entrance on centre stage.

While Kartel was the headliner, the event’s attendees were also treated to a stellar lineup, which included his former Gaza Empire members, recent collaborators, and rising Dancehall artistes. Among the standouts were Spice, Sheba, Jah Vinci, Skeng, Eddy G Bomba, Popcaan, Jamal, Chronic Law, and Bounty Killer.

Eddy G Bomba was one of several surprise appearances at Freedom Street. Considered one of 2024’s breakout Dancehall artistes, Eddy G took to the stage to perform his viral, controversial single No Cap after being called out by Popcaan.

Jamal also made a surprise appearance, performing his song Ballandor for the Freedom Street audience.

Skeng, known for his unique onstage energy, made a masked entrance, and, after shaking hands with Vybz Kartel, went on to perform his hit track Protocol alongside his collaborator Tommy Lee.

Kartel asked for the stage to be cleared as his protégé Popcaan joined him to perform Only Man She Want. Kartel went on to say that he was wearing Nike Air Force 1 sneakers but performed Clarks with Popcaan.

Jah Vinci later joined the men, performing his collaborative single with Vybz Kartel, Weh Dem A Go.

It was an intense moment when Chronic Law joined the stage to perform, with him and Popcaan both expressing their frustration at the event’s organisers.

In regards to his female collaborators, Kartel was joined by the likes of Sheba, with whom he performed hit singles like Gal a Weh Do You, and Spice, who joined him to perform their single Romping Shop.

Kartel was not only joined by his former Gaza Empire mentees but also by his former Alliance mentor, Bounty Killer. The Dancehall veteran described his former protégé as phenomenal and said that many did not believe in Kartel when he dubbed him a lyrical genius.

Bounty added that Kartel has not taken away anyone’s throne because he built his own.
