The feud between Popcaan and Skatta Burrell seems to have deeper roots as a recent release shared by the management team of Unruly Entertainment, highlights a significantly different version of the events that unfolded at the Freedom Street concert when compared to what Skatta Burrell alluded to.

According to the release, Skatta’s judgment of Popcaan was clouded even before the concert. It suggested that this bias may have contributed to the Unruly deejay being treated unfairly, stemming from his repeated refusal to attend Sumfest in previous years due to the disrespect shown to Jamaican artistes, a festival promoted by Skatta.

Addressing the matter directly, the release further refuted Skatta’s initial claims that Popcaan and his team failed to follow security protocols regarding firearms, which allegedly led to them being denied entry to the venue for hours.

It detailed that the issue behind Popcaan’s delay was due to access issues and “mismanagement.”

It also revealed that Skatta had prematurely assumed Popcaan was traveling with more people than allowed, a misconception that was brought to light when a person named Rolexx radioed in to inform him of the situation.

“I was standing with Rolexx when he radioed Skatta to say he was at the gate with me,” Popcaan explained. “Skatta responded, ‘Mi cyahh bodda wid Popcaan and him 100 man,’ not even knowing how many people were actually with me. The reality is it was just my team and Chronic Law’s team.”

The release also stated that Popcaan had requested to use his band for the performance, a request initially approved by Vybz Kartel. However, as the event approached, Skatta dismissed the request, and their team was later informed that using a band was discouraged because of production related reasons.

Despite the events and tension that unfolded, Unruly Entertainment stated that Popcaan has chosen to remain focused on his music and moving forward. No mention of the “suck yo madda” statement was in the release.

“It’s a new year. My team and I don’t have Skatta on our minds. We’re focused on continuing to deliver for fans and elevating the dancehall culture,” Popcaan is quoted as saying in the release.
