Following the backlash and cancellations that Spice has faced since announcing the start of her ‘Ohhh No School Tour,’ the Dancehall artiste has pushed back against the negativity and have sought support from two high profile government officials to discuss the matter further.

In a post on her official Instagram today, the ‘Queen of Dancehall‘ revealed that she approached the unfortunate situation from a different perspective by contacting Dr. Dana Dixon, Minister of Education, Skills, Youth, and Information (MoESYI), and Olivia “Babsy” Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sports.

This resulted in a meeting in Minister Grange’s office where all three women, along with a group of persons, addressed the challenges surrounding her tour.

“This year I decided to take a different approach. I went all the way to the Top, I reached out to the Minister of Education , @iamdanadixon and the Minister of Entertainment and Culture Olivia Babsy Grange immediately set up a meeting at her office to work through the dynamics of what was happening with my School Tour. @hon.oliviagrange,” Spice’s post reads.

However, at the end of her caption, Spice expressed gratitude to both government officials for a productive meeting and hinted at the possibility of a continuation of the ‘Ohhhh No School Tour‘ despite the recent backlash.

“Thank you for being the voice of our music and culture. Jamaica made the right decision in choosing these Strong Women as our government leaders. I am super pleased with the outcome of our meeting, thank you. More to come….” the caption ended.

During a recent interview on the television programme, CVM at Sunrise, Spice shared that while she was on tour, she started to receive cancellations from schools, which resulted in her doing only two days out of the five scheduled.

She stated that the emails indicated that the church body – Tarrant Baptist Church (TBC) in Kingston, which is led by Reverend Jeffrey Shuttleworth, had contacted the schools to oppose her visit which influenced the sudden change.

Spice further shared that Reverend Shuttleworth deemed her not “fit” to speak to the young children, whilst also claiming that she is not a good influence due to the lewd content from her music and videos.

However, she pushed back against these claims, clarifying that she is not attending the schools as her stage persona but as Grace Hamilton, a successful woman aiming to inspire and encourage students.

“I am going as a grown woman, a successful woman, Grace Hamilton, to speak, share, and encourage the kids,” she stated in her CVM at Sunrise interview.
