The Gully Vs Gaza feud between Vybz Kartel and Mavado remains one of the most infamous feuds in Dancehall, and according to Ricky Trooper, he was the one who orchestrated the peace.

The veteran sound system selector made the disclosure during an interview published on Friday. Trooper said that he was a strong supporter of Kartel at the time of the feud, but he and Mavado still had a good relationship.

According to Trooper, during the height of the feud, as the deejays’ lyrical war spilt over into real life, Mavado told him that he was ready for peace.

“Him a sey ‘bwoy, right a now Trooper mi need fi meck some peace with teacha (Kartel) caw a bay vibes and mi cyah teck it. Mi buy all mi house and eh come like mi nuh live in a it,'” Trooper said.

Trooper further shared that Mavado asked him to reach out to Kartel on his behalf. He detailed that Kartel was at first dismissive of Mavado’s call for peace and did not immediately jump at the opportunity.

However, as the feud began affecting the shows he was supposed to perform at, he agreed that it was time for peace.

“In a da time deh now both a dem a come under severe pressure from di security force… Every weh Kartel guh perform him show dem a lock off. He went on to state that he facilitated the peace talks between Mavado and Kartel via a telphone call that lasted for over an hour.

That conversation, according to Trooper resulted in their joint performance at Tivoli Gardens’ community centre in December 2009. It has long been thought that Tivoli Gardens kingpin, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, negotiated peace between the deejays.

“Me mek peace with Gully and Gaza.. me mek dah peace deh mek enuh me enuh, me duh that enuh!”

However, Trooper expressed that he is not offended that Coke receives the praise.
