Retired Jamaican sprinter and former 100m world-record holder Asafa Powell recently celebrated his father’s birthday, and the Olympian shared moments from the celebrations in a video on Tuesday.
A native of St. Catherine, Asafa travelled to Ewarton with his sons Liam, Ameike, and Azhaf to attend his father’s birthday party and feature the elder Powell on his family vlog for the first time.
William Powell was decked out in gold and white, the signature colours for his birthday celebration, which was held at a church near a basic school Asafa Powell built.
While the day was meant to celebrate him, William lauded his son for building the school for the children in the community of Waterloo.
“I sit before the basic school in Waterloo which Asafa build for the community. Him neva tell anybody. Him like to keep things quiet but it is right there [ … ] The children are there and it well supported. It’s a good work, a good job,” William stated.
He also shared that before Asafa built the school, the children were forced to travel a long distance outside of the community.
Later joined by his mother, Cislyn Powell, Asafa helped his father get ready for the party, and his sons escorted his parents up the aisle in the church as the celebration commenced.
