Asafa Powell Runs in Parents Race on Sports Day – Watch Video
Asafa Powell takes on the tracks at his child’s school in a parents’ race on sports day. The short clip showed the retired athlete running for yellow house in a relay race. The video began with one of his yellow house teammates running, just a little behind green and blue house competitors.
Surprisingly, the blue house runner is retired Olympian Jermaine Gonzales, who was leading. However, when he handed the baton to the next parent, the parent stumbled and fell. Asafa effortlessly breezed past his competitor and completed his leg of the race with a fair amount of distance between him and the other runners.
After passing on the baton to the next runner, yellow house continued to push ahead in the lead and came out as the champions of the relay race.
Asafa expressed his happiness in the caption, where he enlightened everyone that it was his first parent race. The 40-year-old father also revealed that he had vowed to restrain himself on the field so that the other runners had a better chance of competing.
“What a great day my first parents race , proud of team yellow house . I made a promise to only use 30% of my speed 👀😀,” he wrote.
The former 100m world record holder shared the moment with his 476K followers on Instagram, posting a video of the race some hours ago.
Responding to the post, which has garnered 17,179 likes, singer Agent Sasco wrote, “Fixing the hat to drive home the point😁😁😁😁😁. @asafasub10king,” to which Asafa laughed.
Another IG user said with laughing emojies, “😂😂 nah you and Shelly fi get ban 😂,” and another expressed that he would not compete with two professional sprinters, saying, “No man 2 Olympian in 1 race …..I’d stop running 😂😂.”
