Following the massive tariffs that were imposed on Canada by President Donald Trump, a Canadian politician threatened to cut off America’s energy supply.
Premier Doug Ford, the leader of Ontario, said that he is ready to take retaliation against the United States as he plans on fighting against Trump in any way he can. Ford also expressed that he would happily do it with a smile.
“If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything… including cut off their energy, with a smile on my face,” Ford stated.
Ford, who said that Trump is underestimating Canada’s strength, went on to encourage other Canadian province leaders to retaliate. Additionally, Premier Ford shared during his news conference on Monday his plans to remove all American alcohol from Ontario stores and end the province’s contract with Elon Musk’s company Starlink.
Despite making the threats, Ford urged the United States to work with Canada, or they would implement the retaliatory legislation. Canada is America’s largest source of energy imports, which include hydropower, natural gas, electricity, crude oil, and other petroleum products.
