Chris Gayle Starts GoFundMe to Raise US$60,000 to Rebuild Basic School in Kingston: Interview

Chris Gayle reveals that he recently started a GoFundMe to raise US$60,000 to rebuild his former basic school in Kingston.
The retired Jamaican cricketer was born in Kingston and attended the Josephine Glasspole Basic School in Rollington Town. The school is one of several learning institutions in Jamaica that was damaged during the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3.
Speaking with Winford Williams on Onstage, Gayle expressed that he usually funds his charitable endeavours out of pocket and said this is the first time he has used GoFundMe. Gayle explained that his charity, the Chris Gayle Foundation, will also be making a large contribution in addition to what is raised.
“We’ve reached probably like $12,000 on the page. So with that $12,000, the Chris Gayle Foundation will put $30,000 on that GoFund towards the school [ … ] I know it’s the school season, but we going to find a way how we can actually work and to balance it, and to do the construction work while school is going on [ …. ] I made a promise, and I’m going to deliver that for sure,” Gayle stated.
During the interview, Gayle also expressed his desire to help cricket return to its prime in Jamaica. The ongoing GoFyndMe campaign is for Lucas Cricket Club in Kingston in addition to the Josephine Glasspole Basic School.
According to the charity fundraiser, both institutions were extensively damaged during the hurricane.
The funds raised will contribute to roof repairs, classroom restorations, playing area refurbishments, new furniture for classrooms and the teacher’s room, bathroom renovations, and the purchase of numerous other items essential for basic schooling and sports.
