Chris Rock’s mother feels deeply hurt about the slap Will Smith gave her son to the point where she said the slap felt like he was slapping her and their entire family. The slap on stage at the Academy Awards ceremony several weeks ago might not be dying down any time soon as Rosalie Rock expressed she was taking the matter very personal.
The 77-year-old woman told WIS TV “When he slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. He really slapped me, because when you hurt my child, you hurt me.”
During the interview in South Carolina, Rose explained that she initially believed the slap was staged until Will Smith began hurling obscenities at the comedian. The mother of seven went on to say that she would now ask Will Smith “What in the world were you thinking?”
Saying everything could have gone completely different, she added, “you reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye, and you went up, and you made her day because she was bowled over laughing when it happened.”
While rose was “really, really proud” of how her son handled the situation, she was not at all impressed with the disciplinary actions the Academy took against Smith following the slap. She noted that she did not think the 10-year ban from all Academy events, including the Oscars, was befitting.
“What does that mean? You don’t even go every year,” she stated.
She was also not moved by Smith’s written apology that was posted on Instagram, saying that “His people wrote up a piece and said, I apologise to Chris Rock.” Rose felt that the situation needed a better apology as she indicated that Smith should have reached out to her son because what happened was something very “personal”.
According to TMZ sources that are close to Chris Rock, who still has not accepted the apology, he might not be accepting the apology any time soon.
