Phoenix Academy CEO and one of the top scouts in Jamaica, Craig Butler, outlines the reasons for Whisper Richards signing a pre-contract with English-based club Chelsea FC in a recent interview with This or That Sports TV, a sports platform hosted on Youtube.
The interviewer got straight to the point by asking Butler how Whisper Richards entered Chelsea’s radar. Craig explained how the connection was made by stating, “Really, it isn’t just Chelsea, it’s about Joe Sheilds we had met about two years ago when I presented him at the time he was at Man City with Dujuan Richards and about our academy and the players and what we can do, he moves a couple of times ended up at Chelsea and he remembers the talent and the quality.”
Also, Craig gave credit to Chelsea scout Tony White, who is a Jamaican, for his help in connecting Whisper with the London club.
Craig also cleared the air on Whisper’s highly publicized trial at Newcastle, pointing out that it was not the best fit for the youngster and claimed that Chelsea showed more interest in Whisper by sending one of their top recruiters to Jamaica to conclude the deal.
The interviewer also asked Craig about Whisper Richards’s performance at the recent trials he went on before committing his future to Chelsea and how he coped with the weather.
Craig informed the interviewer that Phoenix Academy had prepared Whisper optimally from he was a youngster by sending him to school in England, carrying him on tours in foreign conditions across Europe to get him to acclimatize to the cold conditions.
Butler believes Phoenix Academy’s blueprint destined Whisper Richards for success.
