In his final individual 100m race, Usain Bolt finished third behind Christian Coleman and 35-year-old Justin Gatlin at the London Stadium.
Bolt got off to a bad start and almost recovered at the death but was pipped to the post by the American duo.
“I tightened up at the end and that is something you should never do. I didn’t execute when it mattered,” the 30-year-old told BBC Sport.
“I am not fully comfortable in those blocks but you have to work with what you have. I can’t complain about that.
“He [Gatlin] is a great competitor. You have to be at your best against him. I really appreciate competing against him and he is a good person.”
Bolt was also hailed on social media following a truly remarkable career that will never be forgotten.
Among those who paid tribute to Bolt was David Beckham.
The former England captain posted a wonderful message on Instagram and you can see it below…
“We salute you my friend,” Beckham wrote. “For so many years we have watched in admiration and appreciation in what this man has achieved and the happiness he has brought not just to the sport but to millions of children and adults that have had the pleasure to witness the heights of what he has reached year after year.
“It’s sad to see it come to an end but all I want to say is Thank you @usainbolt @gabeturner73”
