In a celebration of excellence and determination, Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree by the esteemed University of Technology. This prestigious recognition highlights her exceptional achievements in the world of athletics and her significant contribution to the nation.
Shericka Jackson’s remarkable journey to becoming one of Jamaica’s most celebrated athletes is an inspiring testament to her dedication and relentless pursuit of greatness. From a young age, Jackson displayed immense talent and passion for sprinting. Her unwavering commitment to her dreams led her to numerous victories and accolades throughout her career.
The former Vere Technical School stand-out athlete marked the achievement by sharing a lengthy message via Instagram as well as some photos from the event.
In a few of the shared photos, Shericka enjoys the company of professors and dignitaries. Jackson also showcased her stunning white dress, fitting for the occasion in a few more shots. The remaining pictures showed her in a blue and yellow graduation gown, posing for the camera.
“It was truly a special and awesome day yesterday. I am grateful and happy to be conferred with an Honourary Doctor of Laws degree from Utech. The rewards for working diligently, persevering, being resilient, determined, and focused can come from unexpected sources,” Shericka Jackson expressed.
The fastest woman alive over the 200m continued her inspiring message in response to her award by stating, “Be encouraged. If your faith is strong, there is always hope for you. There are many ways for each of us to contribute towards building a better nation and encourage everyone to pursue their dreams no matter the circumstance.”
In closing, Jackson expressed her gratitude to those who made the award possible, before thanking her support staff, which includes her family, friends, sponsors and supporters.
