Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards Talks About His Football Journey, Meeting Craig Butler, Leon Bailey Plus Reggae Boyz and Chelsea FC – Watch Interview

Jamaican wonder kid Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards speaks about his sensational football journey so far despite still being only 17 years of age, a football journey that began in Port Royal and led to Chelsea. He also spoke about his main inspirations for his love of the game.

The Chelsea contracted player surprisingly revealed that Kingston College did not initially want him at the institution in his interview on the LET’S BE HONEST podcast. A team he went on to star for, however, Whisper said he was unsure of the reasons for the initial hesitancy from the famous high school.

Whisper Richards continued to share his story by revealing how he met the man behind his big move to Chelsea, Craig Butler, following his outstanding performances in a 9-year-old age group football competition.

“Him come Port Royal and Leon and the wul a dem come fi a party, one a my family seh ‘yow tek him, carry him wid yuh’; dem yah time yah me nuh know who them people yah be, and me a seh yow weh me a go, but the man dem seh gwaan pack yuh bag and me pack me bag […] so when the party done and them come back and see me dem seh no man da youth yah nuh normal,” Whisper Richards explained.

In terms of players who inspired the young striker: Leon Bailey, who he says is his big brother and main inspiration in football, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling. Whisper also recounted his debut for the Reggae Boyz and his exploits in the Gold Cup.

On his debut for the Boyz, he asked God, “Father God, just guide me and give me a likkle goal inna day yah, please me a beg yuh a goal, just a goal me a ask father god for, but father nuh give me, but him give me summn else after,” Richards went on to state that, “him give me a big one inna Gold Cup a dah one deh me like,” Whisper recounted.

While not being able to represent Chelsea in official matches due to player transfer protocols, Whisper says training with the first team was enjoyable and memorable as he waits patiently for his Chelsea debut when he becomes eligible in January 2024.
