Attorney-at-law Isat Buchanan, representing Vybz Kartel and his co-accused, addressed statements made by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn regarding her decision to continue the trial despite jury tampering. In his response, Buchanan highlighted that the DPP’s decision was wrong and apparently indicated that her actions reflected those of a “degenerate.”

A video featuring Buchanan speaking on the matter shows him expressing, “We’re not trying any case in the media. There is no need for any clarifications after the fact.” He also stated, “No one should be allowed to breach constitutional rights and treat it as if it is not a breach.”

Additionally, Buchanan noted that the trial did not consist of a “fair and impartial jury,” which is “the hallmark of a fair trial.”

“The constitution is the don of all dons, and if you are not acting in accordance with the constitution, then you are a degenerate. You can not do that, and we must never allow anybody, whoever they are, to breach the rights of the citizen. This is generally,” he told Andre Stephens during a live stream.

Furthermore, he stated that one of the key factors contributing to the quashing of the conviction was the lack of evidence to show that the defendants had any hand in tampering with the jury.

Later, Buchanan urged the public to cease speculating about the trial, as it would impact any future trial. Despite highlighting that the DPP was wrong, Buchanan urged the public to refrain from criticizing the DPP on behalf of the defence team and the defendants.

“If you are on the defence side, don’t be disrespectful, don’t be rude, don’t put out defamatory accusations that you cannot prove. You simply do not do that. The facts speak for themselves, the judgement speaks for themselves…Nobody has to add flair…Nobody don’t need to disrespect anybody, certainly on behalf of my clients and myself,” he continued.
