Jackson Says Flo-Jo’s 10.49 is ‘Possible’ – Watch Interview

Jamaican top sprinter Shericka Jackson is confident that achieving the seemingly impossible is entirely within her grasp. Breaking the women’s 100m world record is one of those beliefs.

During a press conference held before the Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland, the sprinter expressed her unwavering conviction that there are no limits to her capabilities in the marquee sprint event.

In the wake of her remarkable achievement at the National Championships, where Jackson clinched the third-fastest time in Jamaican history with a blazing 10.65 seconds in the 100m, she firmly believes that American legend Florence Griffith Joyner’s (Flo-Jo) world record of 10.49 is well within her grasp.

“I think anything is possible; for me, I don’t limit what I’m capable of,” asserted Jackson in response to the journalist’ inquiries about the record.

With her phenomenal time of 10.65, Jackson is now the fifth-fastest woman in track and field’s 100m discipline.

Jackson transitioned from focusing on the 400m to the sprint double two years ago. Since then, she has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including two World Championship 100m medals (one bronze, one silver), consecutive national titles in the sprint double, her inaugural Diamond League trophy in the 200m, and various 4x100m relay medals.

Regrettably, apart from Flo-Jo’s 1988 record, Jackson finds herself trailing her compatriots Elaine Thompson-Herah (10.54), Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.60), and American Carmelita Jetter (10.64).

Nevertheless, Jackson remains resolute, emphasising that despite her relatively brief tenure in the sprint events, she believes she can achieve the seemingly impossible under her coach’s expert guidance.

Jackson’s upcoming endeavours include the highly anticipated 100m race on Sunday, where she will face formidable competitors such as Great Britain’s Daryll Neita and America’s Sha’Carri Richardson, among others.
