During a multi-division operation on Monday, the Jamaica Defense Force’s (JDF), through its Maritime, Air, and Cyber Command (MACC) division, intercepted a go-fast boat carrying approximately 2,000 pounds of cocaine.
According to the JDF, the major Boxing Day drug bust was made early this morning by MACC members as the individuals aboard the vessel transporting the contraband attempted to employ various evasive and risky manoeuvres to elude the Security Force.
The JDF noted that the synergetic coordination between the JDF Air Wing and the JDF Coast Guard led to the successful seizure of the vessel.
After the vessel’s interdiction, the three Jamaicans on board were taken into custody, and 19 large and carefully prepared parcels of cocaine were discovered, which are believed to carry an estimated value of J$1.1 billion. The shipment of drugs was reportedly smuggled from South America.
The JDF’s investigation is ongoing, as the relevant and appropriate authorities were made aware of today’s seizure. The JDF stated that it continues to protect Jamaica’s blue economy through its collaborative operational capabilities in the aerial and maritime spaces throughout the day and night.
